Kalimath Temple

Uttarakhand is often recognized as a place of gods and goddesses, with many temples and places of pilgrimage. And Kalimath Temple is one of the most popular of these innumerable religious places in Uttarakhand. Set on the banks of the Saraswati River, about 13 kilometers north of Guptkashi, in the Rudraprayag area, Kalimath Temple is embraced by the Kedarnath mountains. The temple, dedicated to Goddess Kali, is located approximately 1463 meters above sea level and is considered one of Rudraprayag’s top religious tourist attractions.

The Kalimath temple is said to be one of the 108 Shakti Peethas according to Srimad Devi Bhagwat Mahapuran. In addition to Kali, here at the temple, Kalimath is also adorned by Goddess Laxmi and the goddess Saraswati. But another thing remarkable about this Kali-Mata temple is that it is worshipped by a Shakti-Yantra rather than statues and images. Navratri is a major occasion, which the temple commemorates with tremendous ardor and devotion, among the numerous Hindu holidays. In addition, there is the Kalishila Temple about 8 miles above the temple, where the footprints of the divine are located.
