Leadership can be an enjoyable gig but to regain that you need to invest your time and mind. Along with that, a leader should know how to manage their employees who have a negative attitude towards work or who don’t want to follow the right path
Here are five tips for leading those who don’t want to follow:
Make sure the goal and expectations are clear:
“Great leaders are willing to sacrifice the numbers to save the people. Poor leaders sacrifice the people to save the numbers,” said Simon Sinek, a British-American author, inspirational speaker and author of Start With Why and The Infinite Game.
A good leader knows how to provide clear and transparent information to their employees so that the employees will be able to understand what their work is and how to do that work. Also, a leader should make sure that their employees are able to understand the company’s goal, along with that they will provide the right path to follow and achieve the goal. This will help the employees to not get confused and stay on the right track and provide effective work results.
Determine if it’s a can’t do or won’t do problem:
The first thing is to understand the difference between can’t do and won’t do a performance. Well, if we talk about can’t do means a person does not have the skills, ability, or training to follow leadership. But won’t do performance means that a person has all the skills and the ability required to finish the task but due to any reason they are choosing not to get on board. A good leader is clear about these differences and knows how to deal with these situations in different ways.
Engage with few resistors who carry great influence:
The most important thing for a leader is to understand those who are resistant to your leadership. Try to engage with few resistors so that you can understand their thoughts and point of view and offer them to join with you. If they agreed then use their influence to encourage your people. But do not spend a lot of time trying to convert non-believers, it can affect your productive work process. Those who follow you focus on them and help them in improving their skills for effective work results.
Focus on creating positive momentum:
As a leader, you need to make sure that your team should have a positive attitude towards the work and the company. Because positive attitude can help your team to always focus on winning no matter what issues or problems they face. Creating a positive momentum with your team can help you spread positive morale and encourage your employees to hard work so that they can improve their performance.
Incorporate the team’s input as much as possible:
Encourage your team members to share their ideas and views in company meetings so that they should have a chance to indulge themselves in the company’s goal. When your team feels comfortable in sharing their ideas and strategies, they get a sense of ownership and will be able to follow the correct path to achieve the common goal.
